PRAY FOR A MIRACLE

Stephanie, age 8
A Little About Stephanie
Stephanie was born April 3, 1993. She was born with a birth defect called Spina
Bifida complicated with hydrocephalus, arnold chiari malformation and calcium
deposits all over her brain. The prognosis was poor. According to the medical
records, if she survived she would require a full medical team. IF she survived,
she would be a vegetable. There are different levels of spina bifida, some worse
than others. Stephanie has Myelomeningocele. (To read more about Stephanie and
spina bifida, click on the link above)
We have watched as God has done wonders in her life. She's bright, witty,
intelligent and an awesome child to know. But Stephanie's life has been hard.
She had her 7th surgery April 2000. The last surgery was to remove a
non-functioning kidney that had became a breading ground for infection as well
as an urinary track reconstruction. She came out of the operating room with 22
staples, two drainage tubes and a NG tube.
The 6th surgery was to straighten her legs so that she could sit unaided. With
that surgery she had five incisions and both legs in cast.
I won't finish the list but I think you get the idea. Let's just say that
Stephanie still has he tonsils and her appendix, although her appendix was used
in part of the reconstruction of her urinary track. None of the surgeries are
the common ones that we often think of children having.
We have seen the hand of God and praise him that Stephanie is a long way from
being the complete vegetable of a child that the doctors painted the picture of
in those early weeks of life but she is still standing in the need of prayer.
About a year ago Steph ask me to teach her to walk. If I would teach her, she
knew she could do it. Well, Stephanie's leg won't work. I'd give her my very own
and have prayed as much but teaching her is something I cannot do.
About 6 months ago she ask for surgery so they could fix her legs so that she
could walk. With 7 surgeries behind her she is well aware of what surgery means.
The doctor said there isn't any surgery that would even begin to do the job. Man
has done all man can do.
Her last effort at walking was the most heart breaking one. Tucking her into
bed, she told me that it hurt her feelings when she couldn't stand and pray in
church. I explained to her that God doesn't care what position we're in as long
as the prayer is from the heart. She then ask me to go get her Bible and read it
to her so she could see what God wanted her to do so she could stand and pray.
She tried all she knew. Mom and dad, the doctors and now she is looking to God.
I believe Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead. I believe he healed the lame man,
made the blind to see, walked on water, was Christ crucified, raised from the
dead and sits at the right hand of the father.
God's word says that he never changes. He is the same yesterday, today and
forever (Hebrews 13:8). Doesn't have a respect of Persons (1 Peter 1:17). That a
prayer of a righteous man availeth much (James 5:16).
I began to ask myself, if the prayer of one righteous availeth much, how much
power would there be in 100 righteous men. It was from that thought that
"Pray for a Miracle" Sunday began to take form.
"PRAY FOR A MIRACLE" Sunday
On Sunday, May 6th. we are trying to reach as many churches as possibly.
Asking that they take a few minutes out of their service and call
Stephanie's name up to God asking for her complete healing. I'm not
referring to just remembering her in your prayer request. Can you please
take just a minute or two, join hands all over church and ask God to
heal. I want to shake the floors of heaven with Christians in unity, in
one mind and one accord on behalf of my little girl.
Please join us as we call out to our Lord and Savior on May 6th in a
special pray. "God, please heal Stephanie."
II Chronicles 7: 14-15
If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and
pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I
hear from Heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
Now mine eyes shall be opened, and mine ears attent unto the prayer that
is made in this place.
