Stephanie has three older brothers.  Her middle brother, our (soon to be) high school graduate was ask to write an essay on a person who inspires him.  Below is the results.

Stephanie

As I sit here and contemplate my many choices of topic, the most inspirational would have to be my eight-year-old sister Stephanie. To better understand my reason, you must know Stephanie and her background. Let me begin. Stephanie is an eight-year-old little girl who was born with Spina bifida and Hydrocephalous. Spina bifida is a birth defect where the spinal column is in some parts defective and doesn’t work. Hydrocephalous is a disease in which brain fluid has no escape and was “fixed” with a shunt. Those are only the two main problems. She also has an array of other conditions that are common “followers” of the two main.

I would like to venture away from the technical side of the issue and address Stephanie as a person. She is the love of my life. There is not a thing in the world that I wouldn’t do for her. Her inspiration is not noticeable to her though. Through all her set backs she is still fighting it through. Her great love for life would have to be what inspires me most. Everyday she gets up ready to go with a smile on her face. And her faith in God is unbelievable. Although her comprehension in school is limited, she is fully understanding of who God, Jesus, and many others throughout the Bible are and what their purpose is in our life. She is a little on the sassy side though. It is understandable, if you were restricted to a wheelchair all your life you would learn to use other things to get your point across. She has her battles though. About a year ago she started to realize that she couldn’t walk. All the other kids would run and play ball, but not her.   She wasn’t suppose to live past the age of five and she is now eight, she is never suppose to walk and with the help of God she will. She is the sweetest, cutest.  and most altruistic sister any one could ever have.

Most people would back away when approached with the opportunity to adopt a little girl with such problems. Luckily our family took the initiative. For without Stephanie in my life, I wouldn’t be the person I am today (although, compared to her I am week and feeble minded). She inspires me to go the extra step and do take advantage of the blessings the Lord has given me. I thank God for her and her special touch she adds to my life and pray that every one has someone in their life that is a special to them as Stephanie is to me.
